Y’all! I fell off the face of the planet last week due to some lovely emotional turmoil that tried to take me down.
But my identity is secure in CHRIST and not what other people think of me, and so I’m back with a smile on my face and faith in my heart that I’m doing (HERE) what God has called me to do.
I’m pretty I’m pumped to hit you with a (half) Marathon Monday update.
It’s by the grace of God that I’m in running shape again and have been hitting the road/treadmill regularly, because when hard and stressful things come up in life, running is a BEAUTIFUL and healthy outlet. It always has been for me. (Holy Yoga too.)
And life has gotten a little sketch in the last 10 days or so, I’m thankful that I can go sweat it out without my lungs and legs dying on me.
Running helps me put it all in perspective and pound out the stress/worry/cares as my feet hit the pavement. Over and over and over. “Consider … it … pure … joy … my … brothers … when … you … face…trials … of …many … kinds …. For … The … testing … of … your … faith … develops … perseverance, … maturity, … sanctification.” (James 1:2-4)
I recite scriptures in my mind as I run to drown out the negativity … the negative self talk … the anger … the frustration. It clears my mind and I 99% of the time, I return home (or step off the treadmill) refreshed and rejuvinated.
Here’s a glimpse into the recent stress. I was planning to run a beautiful scenic half marathon through wine country (DREAM CITY) in April with my love for our 10 year anniversary trip. (I LOVE DESTINATION RACING!) But due to some unforeseen circumstances, we had to cancel the trip and I had to find a local-isa race to run.
We decided on the Milwaukee half marathon on April 14, 2018! So we’ll be taking the kids with us and making it a super fun destination race weekend after all! <3 (GLASS HALF FULL, Y’all. The kids are pumped.)
But the new race date altered my training schedule a bit and had to jump forward a week. This meant I had 9 miles to run yesterday! Eek! That was a big jump from my 7 miles last weekend.
Well, wouldn’t you know … it just so happened that a lovely friend from church (who is training for an ULTRA marathon …50K in April … girl’s got grit!) had a 9 mile (recovery) run yesterday too! So we ran together and it was wonderful.
We ran at a 9:49 pace per mile, which is faster than I’ve probably ever run 9 consecutive miles! It was a huge win. And she had lots of wisdom to share on running and life.
God provides just what we need.
Another cool side story: When Kev and I realized we would lose $500 for the Cali trip in nonrefundable flights + race fees, we were pretty bummed but decided it was the right decision anyway.
But get this: three days after making this decision, Kevin miss his flight to Atlanta because he was 5 minutes late for the gate closing and Delta gave him a $500 gift card because the flight was overbooked anyway. <3 <3 This is NOT a coincidence.
We follow and serve a God who Restores. Comforts. And Provides.
Thankful for spring weather, fresh starts, running, running partners, and that DIVINE $500 gift card.
